6 Homeless After Fire
posted (March 25, 2019)
Tonight, a family of 6 is in extreme distress after their Belize City home was destroyed by fire just before midday.

Austin Stevens, his common-law wife, Shakira Logan, and their 4 children lived in a yard on in the Jane Usher Boulevard area. Their home is one of 2 houses in the yard, and their neighbors became very worried for their safety when they saw it completely engulfed in flames.

We understand that Stevens had only just gone home with one of his children for a brief moment. Minutes after they left, the house was seen burning.

We spoke with one of his neighbors, who told us why she rushed over:

Delvorine Arana - Area Resident
"I was on my verandah, and I saw the smoke. And when I saw the smoke, I began to wonder what happened. So, one of my neighbor ran pass, and told me, 'It's your niece's house that is burning.' I got confused, and tried to get my niece, but I couldn't get her. So, I ran to the back here. When I got here, the police were already here, but the fire truck wasn't here as yet."

Reporter
"What did you see when you arrived here?"

Delvorine Arana
"When I reached, I saw the entire house, the back house, was in flames, full flames."

Reporter
"Did you niece live there alone?"

Delvorine Arana
"No, she lives with her family but her house just got some water damage."

Reporter
"So, did you know the people who's house got burnt down?"

Delvorine Arana
"Yes, they are relatives of my niece's boyfriend. They lost every thing. They really lost everything."

Reporter
"Any idea? I know it is early, but any ideas as to what may have caused the fire?"

Delvorine Arana
"No Idea."

The Fire Department is investigating the cause of the blaze.
