Today was day 2 of the competition. 5 teams from the police, the coast guard and BDF are competing in a number of challenges, and today saw them start off with a 6 mile relay run followed in the afternoon by a strength testing medley.

The objective of this competition is to strengthen the coast guard women's skills, endurance and overall abilities on the job, but also to highlight that if men can do it, women can too. Here is more from Lt. Commander Derrick Castillo.

Lt. Commander Derrick Castillo, Belize Coast Guard
"This is the annual Wonder Woman competition; we are having this coordinated along with women's month. The participants today is the Belize Coast Guard, the Belize Defense Force and Belize police department participating for the first time."

"This afternoon we are dealing with the coast guard medley. This is taking burdens, every event, every circle we are taking different burdens and at the same time getting tram work, team coordination between team players and at the end of the event you have all team players going up and touching the top of the wall to complete that event.".

"What we intend to achieve from here is having the capabilities and having these women work side by side these gentlemen and there is no fear of anything going wrong because you know you can depend on the person next to you that is the intent of this training."

"We don't want to differentiate male and female type of situation we are all in the same security forces and we are supposed to be working together as a team."

The competition culminates tomorrow with an 8 mile march with combat equipment along the Burrell Boom Road. They will then compete in a live firing competition on the Hattieville Range, and then to the Coast Guard Headquarters for the final event - the Crucible which is a cross fit competition.
