City Man Critical After Gunshot To Chest

Tonight, 38 year-old Lawrence Simpson, a resident of Belize City, is hospitalized at the KHMH from a gunshot injury to the chest. He opened his door last night expecting to find a visitor; instead, he came face to face with a gunman who tried to kill him.

Police say that he, his wife, and their children were at home, when someone shouted for him from the outside. He opened his backdoor to gunfire.

This morning, police told us that his is currently in a critical condition at the KHMH.

"Last night, just after 9 p.m. Mr. Lawrence Simpson, 38 year-old, was inside his of his residence on Pelican Street, when he heard someone calling his name. He went and opened the front door. And at his when, someone who was outside fired several shots at his direction, causing an injury to the left side of his chest. Also, there were some damages that was done to the house. Mr. Simpson was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he is presently admitted in a critical condition at this moment."

"Has it been established why anyone would want to target this man at his house?"

"Well, that's one of the things that we are trying to get from other family members or relatives who were at the residence at the moment. But, up to now, we cannot say if person who was injured, and the suspect had any dispute, or anything like that, up to now."

The cops are hoping for an opportunity to speak to Simpson.
