Tour Guides, Taking a Lick
posted (March 28, 2019)
Last week, we took you to the Fort Street Tourism Village for the latest complaints coming from the local tour operators.

According to the government, last year, the tourism sector hit a milestone with over a million cruise visitors.

But that boon in business is not trickling down to the local tour operators who sell their tours outside the gates of the Tourism Village. They say that it's been worsening for several years now, and according to them, the big tour companies have stifled their business ventures, even resorting to propaganda and scare tactics.

Well, the frustration is building among those tour operators, and today, they held a press conference, trying to make it emphatically clear to the government and the Tourism officials that the situation at the FSTV cannot be ignored any longer. Here's what a few of the tour operators had to say about their financial woes:

The tour operators are urging the BTB and the Ministry of Tourism to take action on their behalf. According to them, the big tourism interests have been allowed to share them out of the tourism pie for far too long, even though they've done their best to comply with every new rule and restriction that the BTB implements at the tourism village..
