Has Belize Researched Guatemala Enough?
posted (March 28, 2019)
Going back now to the Yes to the ICJ Press conference that the Prime Minister hosted today, we had some questions for the presenters. One of the biggest fears we've heard from those in the public is that Guatemala may have a hidden card up its sleeve. Ambassador Alexis Rosado should know. He has done years of research on the issue - dating back to 1997 when he was at the British High commission in the UK. That's when he contributed research to the 2001 legal opinion which is now the basis for the Belize government's decision to go to court. He discussed what is known and unknown:..

H.E. Alexis Rosado, Belize Ambassador to Guatemala
"I say all of that to say this: I've heard some people say that we have not done sufficient research. Some people just a few months ago started researching about this issue and they feel that maybe the hole government has not done any research. The truth of the matter this thing has been research thoroughly - we had tremendous research. Sir Eli had his own researchers going around the archives, not just the British archives, also the archives in Washington, in Mexico and other parts of the world including Spain. Those of us at the Belize High Commission in London. myself, Luis Salazar went over 2-3 years at the archives in the UK going through all the old documentation that pertains to this subject and each time we have fekt we have found enough, Sir Eli and his team would tell us you need to go some more - dig deeper."
