A Dangriga fisherman was executed last night inside his home. 49 year old Carlos Reyes and his worker were at his house when gunmen entered the house and shot them - killing Reyes. Reyes' relatives were a few houses down when the shooting happened. Courtney Weatherburne has more.
Yesterday evening at 6:15, the quiet of Dangriga Town was shattered by gunshots.As the police processed the scene, a crowd gathered and curiously looked on from a distance.
Those gunshots came from Carlos Reyes's Citron Street house, he was shot and killed inside. Reyes was along with his worker when a gunman pounced on them.

"A worker was with him, he was building some fishing pots and that's what we know, we are not too sure, what we know the guy was outside and he come in with the killer and then the killer shoot first the worker and then he shoot my friend, Mr. Reyes."

"So the gunman, he was able to get inside of the house? Because we understand that he might have been shot through the window."

"No, we still don't understand how he got inside."
Reyes was armed but he could not get to his weapon in time. According to our information, Reyes was hit 8 times, his worker, Israel Pimentel was struck to the chest. Pimentel survived but Reyes didn't. Police found Reyes' body on the kitchen floor. Relatives and friends are still trying to make sense of Reyes' murder because they are not sure what the motive is.

"No because I am not a town guy, I'm a country guy right. I hardly been in this town here, I like my country life, I'm not a town man too much."

"He never told you that anybody is after him or if he is in trouble with anyone or he's involved with anything illegal or anything like that?"

"It's been years since I've come around."

“Well, normally people say up to when somebody dead, everybody say he was good but that's a lie, everybody have a bad and a good way. To me, everybody ask me how I never fight with him. I tell him god doesn't see your bad, good see your good. So everybody have their own bads and goods."

"So you think it in Reyes case something he did in the past or something he was connected with came back to haunt him? Do you think that's the case?"

The police know a little more.They say the gunmen left the area in a small taxi - possibly headed for Belize City.Later reports said they may have boarded a boat.
Reports say that what appears to be a hit, may have been drug related, and the killers may have been after some quantity of drugs.
Police have two suspects, an adult and a minor from the Port Loyola area of Belize City who are being sought.
Reyes leaves behind several children.
