Hundreds Holler No at the CJ
posted (April 1, 2019)
As we told you, what happened in court was only one part of the story. What happened outside with the PUP's protestors was the other, and leader John Briceno told us why they were there:...

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"These are Belizeans that want to express their dissatisfaction with a government that refuses to listen to them. We had no need to be here today if the government would have only cooperated with us, because as from far back as 2016 I've been saying that when it comes to the issue of the Belize/Guatemala claim or the unfounded claim that Guatemala has on Belize - that is something that we ae supposed to be working with together, both parties. That we are supposed to be united as Belizeans. But over time whenever they have meetings, we are invited some and not invited to others, we give suggestions after suggestions and all of it is rejected and they don't listen to us. It's unfortunate that we are here today, because we are not ready to have a referendum on the 10th April. And we have laid that out already in the people's declaration which you can refer to at any time> So the people that are out here came from all across the country that wanted to express their dissatisfaction and also express their support to the legal team that was headed by senior counsel Senator Eamon Courtenay. So they are here to show their support."

"How many people were bussed in?"

Hon. John Briceno
"I don't know. Certainly its over 1,000 people were here. We came from Corozal up to the Toledo District, from all over the country showing their support."

As we said, our team is just back, and we'll have much more from the courthouse protest scene later on in the news.
