PG Cops Play Catch and Release with Guatemalans Carrying 40k USD
posted (April 1, 2019)
PG Town was abuzz this weekend after police did some catch and release with a crew of Guatemalans - but police refuse to comment on the case.

The coast Guard intercepted the crew of 15 on Friday afternoon. They were caught in Moho Creek aboard 4 vessels. When the coast guard searched them, they found 3 bundles of US currency, some quetzales, and 11 cell phones in a knapsack held by the leader of the group - who is reportedly from Livingston.

The Coast Guard took them to the Immigration office and then to the police station. Police accounted the money which added up to 40 thousand US dollars, and 2,500 Quetzales. But, no arrest was made. Instead the money was returned to the leader of the group and they were ent on their way.

Today police told us it was not a police matter. But, 7News has learnt that it was police who released them saying that the coast guard intercepted the patrol prior to them reaching the port of entry in PG. They said that the men were on official business and that they were going to declare the cash once they reached PG's proper port of entry.
