First A Knife Murder, Then A Gun Murder
posted (April 4, 2019)
Several hours later, police had to return to the same area in Fabers Road for a gun murder. 40 year-old Eugene Wallace, an employee of Zitro, had recently left from work, and he went to his favorite hang-out spot beside the R&I Chinese Shop. Several of the young men from the area have sort of adopted it as their place to socialize.

It should have been an ordinary evening, but, 2 gun pulled up on motorcycle and immediately opened fire on a group of young men. Wallace, and 22 year-old Zachary Knox were among those socializing, and they were hit multiple times to the body.

They were both rushed to the KHMH, but Wallace was pronounced dead on arrival. Here's what Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo told us today in the briefing:

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"Just at about 8 p.m., again, police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where upon arrival, they observed 2 male persons suffering from gunshot injuries. The first male person was identified as Eugene Wallace, a 40 year-old Belizean and Zachary Knox, 22 year-old Belizean. [What] police have gathered so far is that both of them were at a mechanic shop, at the back of the yard socializing, when 2 male persons arrived on motorcycle. One of the male persons jumped off the motorcycle, ran towards them, and fired several shots at a group of male persons socializing in the yard. As a result, Eugene Wallace sustained injuries to his body, and likewise, Zachary Knox. Unfortunately, Eugene Wallace passed away minutes after he was being admitted to the hospital."

"Ongoing rivalry?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"We understand that again, it is a drug transaction that went bad, and that it has been a dispute about that drug transaction for about a week ago."

"So, what is police doing to - what kind of enforcement is happening in that area?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"The Faber's Road substation is presently being manned by the GSU. So, there are several mobiles attached to that area to contain what happened yesterday."
