Honest Car Thief fined Not Confined
posted (April 4, 2019)
Alleged Car thief Jaleel Goodger dogged jail time when Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford fined him $2,000 for stealing a woman's vehicle in June 2017. In court, three witnesses testified against him and he changed his not guilty plea to guilty and begged the court for leniency. His story is that his boss set him up to steal the vehicle. The evidence against Goodger was strong given that the jacking was all caught on surveillance camera. But Senior Magistrate Ford took into consideration that Goodger took responsibility for the crime and handed him a non-custodial sentence. He has to pay $2,000 plus a $5.00 cost of court fine by August 5, 2019, in default, 1 year imprisonment.

The incident happened on June 24th 2017 around 4:30 am. Linda Turner had parked her SUV at Belize Marine Services while she was inside Sit and Sip. Surveillance camera caught Goodger came out of the passenger side of a vehicle; he went under the hood and then drove off with it. Police never recovered Turner's vehicle.
