"His wife, she came over. First she calls me and then she asked me if I heard. She said okay I am coming over; I am going to tell you in person. So I went downstairs and I opened my apartment gate and she came up and then I open my door and we sat down and the first thing she said was that the news she had was that Smokey died. They shot him and he died. And I said what and then I started crying and I said why and she said she don't know. She said they texted her and told her that they shot my son."

"He had friends over and then after that his girlfriend left for work. I call him about 9:13 last night. Because that's what I always do. I call my son any time I go to sleep, to check on him if everything is okay and he said yes mom everything is okay and I said are you sure son and he said yes everything is okay. So I figured everything was okay, probably maybe the guys were right there. I don't know. And then after that he was telling me something, like chasing the dog downstairs. I said but you don't have a downstairs, where the hell are you? I ask him if he was in Santa Elena and he said no, I am at home. But I heard noises in the background, so figure he was at someone house, he says that he is all alone. I said okay, if you say so. He says don't worry about me mom, I am straight. He says I love you mommy and I said I love you son and I told him to take very good care of yourself. That's what I always tell him."

"So far my son, I love him and no matter what he does, he is my God given son and I love him. You know everybody have threats if you are a little bad person, but his ex-girlfriends. Maybe he played with a girl and maybe she had an ex. So maybe that. But to say that this one and that one wants to kill him, no."

Thompson admits and police confirmed that Bejerano is known to police and has had a few run ins with the law. But no motive for murder has been established as yet.
