posted (April 10, 2019)
Belize's April 10th. appointment with history ended up being a disappointment today because of the postponed referendum. Whether you were for a "yes" or a "no", chances are you'd had enough of the campaigning and just wanted to get it over with.

Today we sampled public opinion in downtown Belize City - to find out how people feel about the postponement:..

Interviewee 1
"I feel sad, I wanted to get it over with one time and done."

Interviewee 2
"First of all I agree with going to the ICJ, but the difference is, is the way the prime minister went on about doing it. First thing what he did he didn't went to the house and the senate. I am not saying going to the ICJ is wrong. All I am saying that his way of doing it, he go on like he is dictating to us Belizeans how things are supposed to be done and does not want to respect the highest court in Belize."

Interviewee 3
"Well I was supposed to go and work for it. So I am sorry that it sisnt happen today. I really would like to see that it goes on today. I was going to say yes."

Interviewee 4
"I am glad that I am not going to school. The referendum didnt happen today. I dont really have any thoughts againbst it. But I think it should happen."

Reportet
"Do you think we should go?"

Interviewee 4
"Yes, because they will continue harass us. I don't they come and then we have to eat only panades. I dont want to sould racist."

Interviewee 5
"Its better they postponed it, because people are not ready yet and when people ready, you will know exactly and when it will take place."

Interviewee 6
"At the end of the day, what happened, happened for the best. If it was a Yes vote and if it were a No vote then so be it. I was thinking of voting, but at the end of the day its very confusing. So I am waiting for them to bring it clearly and break it down into a smaller version so we can know if we can win."

Interviewee 7
"The feeling kinda mixed, because I am a public officer and we were all set ready to go. Another thing as just a citizen of Belize we never got a chance to exercise our rights. It's the people above our pay grade, they decide the thing and thats how its set. so we just have to wait."

"When they lift the injunction, let's see."

Interviewee 8
"I was disappointed about it, because I am waiting patiently to see what was going to be the outcome and I hope that they don't give up our Belize like that, because at the end of the day, it belongs to us and if indeed it belongs to Guatemala, that was then and this is now."
