Criminals Roaming Benque Riverside
posted (April 11, 2019)
First a grenade was found, and, now, police found two guns and ammunition in Benque Viejo near the Mopan riverside. At the bi-weekly press briefing, the media asked police if the two finds are linked and if it is part of a larger cross border trade in weapons. Here is what the Head og National Crimes Investigation had to say:

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of NCIB
"On yesterday's date Benque Viejo police while on patrol conducted a search on an empty lot near the river Banks in Benque which resulted in the discovery of two weapons concealed in a bag and was later, or was also inside two sacks. One of those weapons are a 45 glock pistol containing 12 rounds of 45 ammunition and the second weapon is a 9mm pistol containing a total of 13 rounds of ammunition. No one was found in the area so these weapons were processed , retrieved and deposited as found property at this point in time pending further investigation."

Reporter:
"Sir, I think a week ago a grenade was found on the river bank in Benque, is it possible that these things are linked?"

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of NCIB
"At this point in time we would not be able to say that because as you all know the river bank in Benque is a large enough area."

Reporter:
"But is it in the same vicinity?"

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of NCIB
"Not exactly in the same vicinity."

Reporter:
"Does police have any information as to whether a group is operating in that area and if so what are you guys doing to try to cut down on this?"

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of NCIB
"Well hence the reason why the police in Benque Viejo keep making these seizures . If you recall over the last two months there have been a number of weapon seizures and a few of those seizures were along the same river side in empty lots."

Jules Vasquez:
"Is there the pressures of the cross border trade in drugs and weapons?"

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of NCIB
"In the absence of any concrete evidence in relation to those seizures I will not venture to make any other comment other than on the seizure."

Jules Vasquez:
"Does intelligence indicate as streets intelligence says to me that you can buy grenades and weapons quite easily in Guatemala and Melchor?"

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of NCIB
"Well I won't report on what is happening in Melchor."

Jules Vasquez:
"But you have to look at sources of crime and hot points."

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of NCIB
"Yes of course the police is looking at different intelligence and different strategies."
