March Made History For Tourism
posted (April 11, 2019)
The Belize Tourism Board has released the latest statistics for tourist arrivals for this first quarter of 2019. The numbers say that the industry is on the way to another very successful tourism year, possibly another record setting year.

Overnight tourist arrivals are up by 6.3% as of the end of March, when compared to the same time period last year. Almost 58,000 visitors came to Belize in the last 3 months. According to the BTB, March 2019 saw the highest recorded number of visitors of any month so far in the history of Belize's tourism industry.

For cruise tourist arrivals, in the first quarter of the year, 143,000 visitors came to Belize from both the Belize City and Harvest Caye ports. 45 ships have made port calls in Belize so far. The BTB says that this represents a 19.5% increase over the the cruise passenger arrivals over the same time period for last year. As we have reported, this increase has not been reflected in the number of guests going to local tour operators in Belize City - that number has dwindled to a trickle.
