Is our case as strong as it should be and I was reminded as I was preparing my notes yesterday that this sounded familiar to those who said on the eve of Independence "are we ready?" "Can we defend ourselves" "Let us wait until we can defend ourselves before we agree to Independence" If we had done that, if we had waited until we could defend ourselves we would probably still be a colony."

"How can you say you will get it right when you are promoting No. No is a position. Yes, is a position. Both means you are thorough, you research you analyse and you are confident in your decision and as a leader to promote No, means you take a decision. What Senator Courtenay said earlier is to be considered and what Senator Lizarraga said look at the registration process, look at some of the technicalities in the document. That is getting it right."
As we reported last night, the bill passed with the support of the 6 UDP Senators plus the Church and Civil Society Senators. Labour, Business and two of three PUP Senators opposed, with one of them abstaining.
