posted (April 17, 2019)
He's been in prison 6 years awaiting trial for murder, but tonight, 65 year-old Marciano Correa, a cane cutter from Libertad Village in Corozal, is out on bail.

Correa was charged with the April 2013 murder of 43 year-old Sisto Victorio Osorio. He was struck on the head with a blunt instrument, and his body was found facedown on a pavement in the village. It was believed at the time that Osorio was killed as a consequence of a some sort of family dispute.

Correa's attorney, Richard "Dickie" Bradley, made a bail petition on his behalf before Justice Colin Williams today. He made the point that Correa suffers from numerous ailments, and that whenever he is taken to court, the judges have had to order that he be taken taken to the hospital. Bradley also noted that Correa is not a flight risk, given that he's been on remand all that time.

After consideration, Justice Williams granted Correa bail with the condition that he must report to the Corozal Police Station every Thursday, until his case heard and disposed of. Additionally, he is ordered to attend all adjournments of this case in the Orange Walk Supreme Court, until it is heard and disposed of.

Crown Counsel Portia Ferguson represented the Prosecution in this petition.
