COMPOL Froze Arzu’s Salary
posted (April 25, 2019)
And we go back now to our interview with Commissioner Chester Williams and the measures he's taken against the President of the Police Association, Corporal Eldon Arzu. He's frozen Arzu's salary. Williams says that he transferred Arzu to another office in charge of planning and research but according to Williams's information, Arzu has not shown up to take up his post at that new office. So Williams cut off Arzu's pay. Here is how Williams explained it.

Chester Williams- Police Commissioner
"We sat around this same table in January myself, Mr. Arzu and the other members of the association newly elected at that time and I said to Mr. Arzu, I said corporal you have been a corporal for a number of years now. I am going to move you from where you are and seeing that we are now creating this new office that deals with planning, research, inspection, implementation and policies. Seeing that you are somebody who seems to be much into the welfare of officers I am going to put you at that office to work with Mr. Jones and then you can help to develop policies that will improve the welfare and the condition of service for police officers. In order to put him back into the arena of policing and make him promotable, I solicit that to him and he offered no objection and so we went ahead and drafted the transfer letter. It was served on him and to this date he has not approached me to say that he does not want to take up the post. Which in the department is transferrable and if it is that we all will work where we say we want to work then, we surely will not have a well-run police department, but notwithstanding that fact, he gave never said to me well commissioner I don't feel comfortable working in that office as the case may be and so I was surprised to see when he took a matter before the court, he had the transfer as an issue."

"I will say that the police department is transferrable and I dont do nothing with malafed. I always try to do things for the interest of the officers. Sometime it may not be what they believe is in their nest interest at that particular time, but on the longer run then they will see and so his transfer letter was given to him. To this date he has not taken up his transfer, his new post and is not as if he were moved from Belmopan to Belize City or to Cayo or to Dangriga. He was being moved right within Belmopan where he would be working out of the office with Mr. Jones and still focus on association issues."

Reporter
"So he has not reported to work?"

Chester Williams- Police Commissioner
"He has not taken up his transfer. He continued to report at the police training school and about a month or so ago, directive was given that he is to report to the new office to take up his transfer and since then he has disappeared in tenure. So I gave the directive to stop his salary and that is in line with what we would normally do. Police officers are public officers. We are paid from the consolidated revenue and we cannot be paying people for services that they are not rendering. The same principle applies in the private sector and the issue of his salary stoppage is going to continue until he reports for duty."

Williams says up to today, he does not know where Arzu is and claims Arzu has not turned up as yet. The Caribbean Federation of Police Welfare Associations today said, quote, "On April 15th, 2019 the Commissioner froze the salary of Corporal Eldon Arzu in spite that he reports working every day at the Police Welfare Office which there are records to prove same."

The Trajectory of Jarrel's Demise

Belize American Heavyweight Boxer Jarrell Miller has gone from the cusp of the biggest boxing match of his career to being one of the most denounced athletes of the year - sadly putting him on par with the likes of Lance Armstrong and, yes, Marion Jones.

The 30- year old boxer has tested positive for three banned substances in just a few weeks. And, after an initial denial, on Friday he took to Instagram to accept that he'd done wrong. That earned him no points from fight promoter Eddie Hearn, who had put Miller in the heavyweight title fight against Anthony Joshua, Hearn is one of the most powerful figures in boxing presently. Here's the apology and Hearn's reaction:,..,

Later in his rant, Hearn accepted that there is widespread drug use in across boxing ranks.
