Placencia Scare: Piper Seneca Gets Double Blowout When It Lands Downwind
posted (April 26, 2019)

More is known tonight about the Guatemalan plane we told you about last night.  The Piper Seneca had a rough landing at the Placencia Airstrip around 4:00 pm.

This video shows how rough it was as the plane lands at high speed, and then smoke is seen coming from both its wheels.  7News has learned that the pilot of the light twin engine plane attempted to land twice - but was having difficulty.  The problem was that he was landing in the wrong direction.  He landed in the same direction the wind was blowing - and doing so on the shortest runway in the country.  Experts say it’s a miracle that he didn’t end up in the sea.

He touched down at such speed that both his tires burst on landing.  5 persons were on board including 41 year old pilot Mario Cisneros Lopez.
