Sewell Brothers All Free - 12 Years After US Named Them in Drug Traffic Conspiracy
posted (April 26, 2019)

They’ve been put through the legal ringer for over a decade but, tonight, the Sewell brothers are all free - after the last of them was returned home yesterday.  7News has been reliably informed that after serving a 12 year prison sentence in the US, Duane Sewell was deported to Belize yesterday.

In December of 2007, Sewell was sentenced to 17 years in the US state of Ohio for  importing drugs into the United States. He and his brothers Mark and Gary were allegedly at the center of multimillion dollar ring that ferried cocaine from Belize through Mexico to cities across the United States, using couriers who carried the cocaine in oversized shoes.

In 2007, U.S. Marshalls seized Duane Seawell on a layover in Miami when he was being deported from Jamaica to Belize.

His brothers Mark and Gary were arrested in Belize and locked up at the Hattieville Prison for years pending extradition to the US to be tried for the same offence. But Gary and Mark got off on technicalities in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Yesterday, Duane Sewell was picked up by police at the airport, and released after standard processing for deportees - after which he went to take up residence in the Cayo District. He has to check in with police weekly - as is standard for deportees.
