New Ballots Printed, Cost Taxpayers 20k
posted (April 30, 2019)
And, Tamai's office is the one monitoring about 165 thousand new ballots that have to be printed for next week's referendum. New ballots had to be issued because the heading now refers to the "Belize Territorial Referendum Dispute Act", while the old one referred to the Referendum Act Chapter 10.

But, that's the only thing changing; the question remains the same and the big boxes are also the same: YES OR NO.

Tamai explained:

Josephine Tamai
"Previously the ballots were done in accordance with chapter 10 which is the referendum act. In this case now we know that we have the Belize Territorial Dispute referendum act, so that is what we have to put on those ballots. That is the only reason why the ballots have to be reprinted and I will tell you when it comes to the cost itself, it's under $20,000 in regards to the printing of the ballots."

Reporter
"How will you handle the April 10th ballots which will not be used? I imagine they have to be very effectively destroyed. What's the status with that?"

Josephine Tamai
"I would not want to disclose publicly how, but believe me the ballots will be destroyed with security and those will be destroyed even before and I will tell you it clear distinction because when it comes to the act itself or anything like that its different when it comes to the ballot paper. There is absolutely no mix up with the other. We won't even have those ballot papers on hand on that day."
