Women Left Stranded After Kidnapping and Carjacking

Tonight, 2 women are recovering from from what they say was a terrifying ordeal after 3 men reportedly kidnapped them on Tuesday night at Mile 8 on the George Price Highway. The men then reportedly stole their vehicle, and drove them up to Armenia Village in the Cayo District, tied them up, and left them in the bushes at on the side of the Hummingbird highway, in the darkness.

28 year-old Cynthia Ulloa, a resident of Sun Set Park, located at mile 8 on the George Price Highway, reported to police that she was inside her Toyota Land Cruiser SUV.

One account we've heard says that she was in the company of her friend, 30 year-old Kristie Mejia, a resident of mile 21 and a half on the George Price Highway. They were parked in front Kristie Mejia's house socializing, when they were reportedly approached by 3 men: 2 of Hispanic decent, and a brown complexioned man, who was armed with at firearm.

The gunman ordered them to get into the back of the vehicle, where the luggage space is. Fearing for their lives, they complied, and the men reportedly drove them up to a deserted area near Armenia Village on the Hummingbird Highway. The men then robbed them of their personal belongings, including jewelry and cell phones.

The men then tied up both women, and abandoned them on the side of the road, and drove off with the 70-thousand dollar Toyota Land Cruiser, which is still missing.

A passerby reported to village police that around 11:15 she saw one of the women wearing only a bra and shorts on the side of the road frantically trying to stop someone for assistance. Police responded and got them to safety.

Today, police said that the women were abducted from the Sunset Park area at mile 8 on the George Price Highway

"On Tuesday night, sometime around 8:40 p.m., Belize City police received information that one Cythia Ulloa, 28 years, was along with one Christy Mejia, at sunset park inside her vehicle, which is a silver in color Toyota Land Cruiser. And according to her, whilst they were inside her vehicle, they were approached by 3 male persons, one of whom was armed. Those persons directed that they get into the back of the vehicle, and as a result, they were driven to an area on the Hummingbird Highway, just outside of Armenia Village, where they were later found by police, shortly after midnight, on the said Tuesday. So far, police have not recovering the vehicle, and we are investigating this matter."

No arrests have been made and the vehicle remains missing.
