Man Guilty of Murder
posted (May 2, 2019)
Tonight, 26 year-old Tevin Andrewin is at the Belize Central Prison awaiting sentencing, after he was convicted of murder in a trial without without jury by Justice Marilyn Williams. The judge found him guilty of the 2012 murder of 19 year-old Myrick Gladden

Crown Counsel Sherigne Rodriguez prosecuted, and she called Gladden's common-law wife to testify at the main witness. She told the court that at around on June 24, 2012, she and Gladden were walking on "Complex" Street, when she heard 3 gunshots. She was shot in the calf and turned around to see the gunman, and Gladden on the ground.

She said that the shooter started approaching her while firing his weapon in her direction, and she ran away. While she was escaping, she saw the gunman standing over Gladden, firing more shots at him. Gladden was hit three times in his back, once in his right armpit, and once to his chest.

Another piece of evidence against Andrewin was a statement which police managed to record from Gladden himself before he died. He named Andrewin as the man who shot him, and that written statement was admitted into evidence.

After Crown Counsel Rodriguez closed her case, Andrewin's attorney, Hector Guerra, made a no-case submission, citing that the identification evidence against him was poor. After consideration, Justice Williams did not uphold that submission, which led to the defense making their case for Andrewin's innocence. Andrewin gave a statement from the dock in which he denied that he committed the offense.

After consideration, Justice Williams found Andrewin guilty of murder. No date has been scheduled as yet for his mitigation hearing, which is when he will be sentenced.
