Can’t Vote With Pens
posted (May 2, 2019)
We asked the Elections and Boundaries office for comment on Lamb's case today - and we are still waiting on a response.

But, on Tuesday, the E & B office did comment on a matter of public interest. Leaders of The Belize Peace Movement say they want to vote with pens - or possibly even punch the ballot with a hole to make their vote indelible and unequivocal.

The Chief Elections Officer says that's a no-go:...

Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer
"Well the first request that I received was in order for them to put a punch paper mark in the ballot paper. We have written to them, because if you destroy a ballot paper, that is an offence. So we ask for them to desist from doing that. They wrote again and says okay if its clear that it is our intent that we want to vote whichever way either yes or no, whatever their position is, if they could bring their own indelible pencils or pen. Again, the representation of the people's act is clear when it speaks to election supply. Its the returning officer's responsibility to ensure that materials are supplied for the election and we will supply those. I want to ask persons to please ensure you abide by the laws. Don't try to come in and bring in your own thing and create mischief, because your ballot will not be counted."
