The PSE, Easy?
posted (May 3, 2019)

Social Studies and Math - those were the subjects that over 7 thousand primary school students tackled today in Day 2 of the PSE at 30 Examinations Centres across the country.

Most of those centers are high schools and we passed by a few of them this afternoon when it was all over to ask them how it went.

Hon. Patrick Faber - Minister of Education
"We are hoping that all will go well, we are hoping for some indication of improvement this year we have been working diligently especially as it relates to our Math and Language Arts curriculum and we are hoping this year we can see some of those changes coming into effect."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Is there any specific initiative or movement whether it is a national movement something done by the government or specifically the Ministry of Education when it comes to tackling these core subjects that these students are not performing well in especially Math."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"There are many you know, if you remember we have the EQUIP initiative the focused on Math training and Language Arts training and apart from that the overall training of teachers. We have seen where the number of trained teachers have jumped tremendously over the last decade but we are hoping that we will start seeing the results of all the investments not only of the government and people of Belize but also the many partners that have engaged with us to ensure there is a higher quality of education and that these subject areas in particular improve."

Historically, math has been the weakest subject for test takers.
