Raider Wasani Castro Will Challenge Disqualification
posted (May 3, 2019)

Earlier this week, we told you how Wasani Castro was disqualified from the cross country and stripped of his 12th place finish.  The Belize Cycling Federation cited him for holding on to his team’s vehicle between Mile 48 and 47 leaving Belmopan Cityâ€￾.

Well, Castro isn’t taking the punishment lying down; he’s lawyered up because he says he was unjustly disqualified.  Attorney Hector Guerra has written the Federation saying that his client was denied due process.  He says the Disciplinary Committee was required to hold an inquiry into the complaint before any sanction was imposed on Castro.

Geurra goes unto argue that Castro gained no “significant advantageâ€￾ by holding on to a pickup for that shot period of time.  Guerra says Castro had fallen due to a flat tire and his service pulled up to give him a  massage on his injured leg.  Guerra writes, quote, “Mr. Castro held onto the vehicle for a very brief moment while he received treatment from his service personnel.â€￾

So, Guerra is demanding an urgent date for a, quote “proper hearing before fair and impartial adjudicators, so that he can defend the charge against him.â€￾

Guerra warns, quote, Â Ã¢â‚¬Å“If we do not hear from you within 1 week, my client is minded to initiate whatever legal proceedings available to him, against you.â€￾  We’ll see what’s the Federation’s next move.
