Alleged Coney Driver Shooter Set Free
posted (May 7, 2019)
Back in February, we first reported on that wild shoot-out between police and 2 men on motorcycle, which happened in broad daylight on Coney Drive, in Belize City.

The incident placed innocent civilians and businesses at risk of being injured because one of the fleeing suspects fired gunshots at a police officer, grazing him, and the cops returned fire. The two cousins 23 year-old Clifton Allen and 21 year-old Ulide Allen were taken before the court to the charges of attempted murder, 2 counts of aggravated assault, wounding and use of deadly means of harm.

When they went back before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford today, all the charges were withdrawn against both. That was good news for Clifton Allen, but Ulide Allen didn't get off so easily. The Senior Magistrate re-read the charges to him in another arraignment, and she accepted his not guilty plea. She offered him bail of $5,000, which he was able to meet, and he must return to court on September 2nd.

As we told you, on February 6, 2019, police officers were allegedly responding to a report of a robbery in progress on Coney Drive. They were pursuing the suspects, later identified as the Allen cousins, one of the men fired several shots at them. One of the officers, Leon Higinio, was wounded. The other officers, Waldemar Vellis and Graciano Briceno, were unhurt.
