Judge Schwebel, One For The Road
posted (May 7, 2019)
So, tomorrow is the big day…Referendum Wednesday - the end of a years of hearing about the referendum, and months of intense campaigning by both sides, "yes" and "no". As Belizeans, most of us are on pins and needles about what will come out of the vote - and - we should know in about 28 hours from now.

What should you do? Well, vote you conscience - and only that.

The bottom line is there's no sure thing, but the experts agree, going to the ICJ is the only way Belize can dispose of Guatemala's claim. Whether you believe that, or believe it is worth the risk - is where you get to exercise your choice as a voter.

In March we spoke to Former ICJ President Stephen Schwebel who sat on the court for almost two decades and was a former president. Even he conceded that he can't say for sure what the court will decide. Here's how he weighted the balance of risk and reward:

And, now, the decision is yours. Not Judge Schwebel's or Mr. Barrow's or Mr. Briceno's…yours and yours alone. Tonight at midnight, all the ads will cease and tomorrow, you get to vote without all the noise.

We'll be there covering the event every step of the way. Our "Run di Referendum" Coverage begins at 7:00 am - when you can join me and Jules Vasquez and our correspondents in the field for up to the minute reports on what is happening out at the polling stations.

Join us then, and rest well for referendum Wednesday….goodnight, see you tomorrow morning.
