No Irregularities Observed with Voters' Disenfranchised
posted (May 9, 2019)
And we heard that same "hell, no!" from a few voters who showed up to vote only to find that even though they had an ID card, their names were not on the list. We got reports of a number of these cases from quite a few polling stations. It's a most unfortunate result of kinks in the re-registration process. But, the Commonwealth observers said they didn't encounter this:..

Rt. Hon. Hubert Ingraham, Head of Commonwealth Observer Team
"What we observed at the polling stations, there were large number of persons who did not have their cards, who had registered, who cards were in place at the centres who were issued their cards and signed for them - who were directed which polling stations to go to and in some cases which constituency. We did not observed persons who came who had a card and whose names did not appear on the register. We didn't experience that, but now that you mentioned it to us we will make inquiries."

The Commonwealth team encourage Belizean stakeholders to conduct a post-referendum review to further strengthen Belize's governance institutions. Their full report will be issued in about a month. They joined observers from the British High Commission, the US Embassy, the Taiwanese Embassy, and CARICOM.
