Jail for Man Who Put His Bro’s Food Cart On "Buy and Sell"
posted (May 10, 2019)

A family refused to pay bail for their loved one because they say he needs to go to prison to get off drugs.

Nineteen year old Brandon Richards appeared today before Magistrate Emerson Banner, charged for the theft of his brother's food cart.  His brother Johnny Richards says that Brandon posted his $5,000 cart for sale on Belize Buy and Sell's Facebook page for not even a tenth of the value!

Yesterday morning about 10, Brandon got a buyer and he sold the cart for $450.

Johnny reported the theft to the police and Brandon was taken to Precinct 1 Police Station yesterday to be charged for theft. But when he arrived at the station he was searched by a police officer who found 13 grams of cannabis in his pocket.

So, apart from the charge of theft, he was charged with possession of a controlled drug. He pleaded guilty to possession and was given a small fine. But, he pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft and was offered a bail of $2,000. But his family refused to bail him. They say that he would be better off in prison due to his drug habit, which, according to them, has landed him in trouble with the law several times. Brandon's next court date is July 10.
