Santa Teresa Villagers Say Police Inspector Stole Their Rosewood
posted (May 13, 2019)
Residents of Santa Teresa Village in the Toledo District say a policeman stole logwood from them. The Quiche Ha Community Based Enterprise says that a lone officer, an Inspector who is from Toledo, went to their village and took Rosewood which they had stored up. The Quiche Ha chairman says the cop took what was theirs without authority. Here's what he told PG TV:…

Pablo Max, Chairperson - Quiche Ha
"Right now our concern is that a police officer was involved in getting into our area. We are saying that he was stealing Rosewood from our area without our permission."

Reporter
"How do you know that he stole these Rosewood?"

Pablo Max, Chairperson - Quiche Ha
"He went there yesterday at 6pm and overnight he was there at 4pm. We set a team at the roadside and when he came out at 4:30am this morning, all of us were there by the roadside and we try to stop this guy and he just sped off and we couldn't catch up with this guy."

The village's First Alcalde narrates how they tried to stop the cop, but without success:…

Mateo Salam, First Alcalde, Santa Teresa
"We tried to stop him. I saw him when he was coming and I put on my flash light and try to stop him from my light, but he didn't stop. He went straight through. We came to the police station to make a report."

So, the PG police side of the story is that they tried to mediate. The officer commanding called the Inspector who told the police that some attorney gave him authority to go to the logging site to pick up rosewood. He told police the rosewood in questions is small pieces of rejected lumber. Police are telling the Inspector that, regardless, he had no authority to remove the rosewood and he needs to return them.

We'll keep following the case.
