Disappointment for Ascenthium
posted (May 14, 2019)
The last time we told you about the Belizean rock and metal band, Ascenthium was 3 weeks ago. That's when they flew out of country for Panama to participate in the first round of the 2019 Wacken Open Air Festival.

They were trying to qualify for a trip to Wacken, Germany, for a shot a being the judged as the best metal band around the world for this year in the biggest global event for the genre of music.

In order to do that, they had to compete against bands from Central America, and on April 27th, they took on 6 other bands from the competing countries who participated.

At the end, however, the trip ended in heartbreak, because Ascenthium lost. This evening, their publicist told us via telephone that its a disappointment, but they hope to move on, and learn from the experience:

Cherisse Halsall, Publicist, Ascenthium
"The experience was very good for the entire band, as we said in the Facebook post. One of the positive things they got to experience a new audience, experience a new music for the first time and in terms of what we called conversion in that room we got 200 new fans that night. So apparently the music was very good and everybody really enjoyed it. However, the results were not what we would have wanted them to be. The band ended up not placing, not even third. So we found that in our opinion that was concerning and we do feel that the judging wasn't on target. because there were certain criteria that we were told would be use in order to make the decision and those criteria were not employed. 6 bands performed. It was all Central American countries except Nicaragua, they did not send a representative, so it was Ascenthium from Belize, from Guatemala, Vendetta from Honduras, Massen from Costa Rica and Voltar from El Salvador."

"The morale that was difficult just because we feel that we were not judge fairly. There is a lot of things that are happening in the next few months, our first major performance backing Belize will be the music ambassador music month fest that's taking place on the 23rd May at the Marion Jones Stadium. We are very excited about that. We will list for you guys, including some Game of Thrones music that we expanded in from medley. We also were planning to film our first music video in July and that will be for our single "paranoia" which we plan to take on a high school tour that we had to postponed becayse of this competition, but we will be launching that tour in October and taking the song "paranoia" because the song is about metal health and mental health struggles on tour to show the story of that song to the high school students that we performed for in October."

Ascenthium intends to upload a Video blog showing behind-the-scene moments on their youtube page.

The band also intends to go on a countrywide high school later this year tour to promote their new single which explores the challenges of living with mental illness.
