Taiwan Donates To UDP Albert Rep’s Committee
posted (May 15, 2019)
When we hear about donations from the Taiwanese Embassy - and there are many - usually it's to a ministry of government department. But, this morning, they donated to the Albert Action Committee, Minister Tracy Taegar-Panton's divisional group.

The Taiwanese donated 30 thousand dollars towards the development of an Albert CARE Centre.

We found out what's the plan for the centre - located above Taegar's constituency office on Regent Street:...

Hon. Tracy Taegar Panton, Albert Area Rep.
"We felt based on our work in the division that there was a need for a safe space where our students both at the primary school level and the secondary school level to come and do homework, research, get some tutoring if it was necessary, mentorship, counselling services."

H.E. Remus Chen, Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize
"We support this project simply because the after school program such as computer skill training and other in a safe environment can really benefit your young students, your prospect leaders in the future for your great country."

Taegar-Panton explains why the location has sentimental value to her:

Hon. Tracy Taegar Panton, Albert Area Rep.
"This location is the location of my family home and I think it's important to mention it, because when my dad got very ill he ask me that at some point that we would use this building in the service of the community and at that time I had not yet offered myself for political office and I made a commitment to him that at some point that we would find a way to use the building to serve the community and I think the rest is history and so I would like to thank my brother Shawn who is here to represent my mom, because today is particularly meaningful to her and she wanted to be here, but could not, because she knows that all their lives my family have given their lives in service."

There are 7 schools in the Albert division.

Panton says the 30 thousand dollars is just to get the place up and running, and she will be seeking other business donations to upgrade the building and to keep the centre open.
