UDP Carishores Convention Contention
posted (May 16, 2019)
Political tension is thick amends the UDP's movers and shakers in the Caribbean Shores divisions. As we've been reporting, Santino Castillo, Leila Peyrefitte and Lee Mark Chang have all expressed an interest in an area that is not even vacant! Duly endorsed standard bearer Darrell Bradley has NOT indicated that he will step down and he is expected to have a meeting with the Prime Minister tomorrow to discuss this. But, big wheels in the political machine are turning and the UDP is having a party council meeting on Saturday to decide on the Carishores convention. We are told that the best Bradley may be offered is to contest the convention. And, it would be a quick one. Reports say the party wants to push to convention for as early as next month. That would seem to put Leila Peyrefitte at an advantage - since she has been working in the area in the referendum campaign.

It will make for interesting viewing - and Deputy Leader Patrick Faber today said he welcomes all three:..

Hon. Patrick Faber
"The party in its central executive meeting yesterday made a decision to take the issue of the Caribbean Shores back to the national party council which will meet on Saturday. On that occasion a decision will be made on what we will do about a convention in Caribbean Shores. I want people to be careful when I say convention it does not have to be a voting convention. There must be a convention to endorse a candidate. If there is a contest it is the winner of that contest that is endorsed. If not, then the party endorses one candidate. So on Saturday what we will do is decided on whether we will endorse or reopen or do whatever decision is made in that meeting on Saturday. Santino Castillo is a friend of mine. We've heard as well that Lee Mark Chang is considering putting in his name. I know so for a fact. Leila Peyrefitte, they are all wonderful candidates and I think the party would be lucky to have any one of them in the seat. So I am going to say that I am happy, I will be happy to see a convention happen."

"A contested convention?"

Hon. Patrick Faber
"A Contested convention is that is the case to see who is the best person. I also stand behind any decision our party makes on Saturday in order to ensure that we put our best foot forward in Caribbean Shores."

Notably, John Saldivar will reportedly support Santino Castillo - so it is expected that Faber will also have to support one of the candidates.
