posted (May 20, 2019)
It was a terrible, traumatic weekend in Belize. Nationally, 7 males were shot - including an 11 year old, 2 males were killed, a 70 year old was stabbed in his home, and a 15 year old was killed in a hit and run.

Very rough - most so for the families of these victims. We begin tonight with one mother who is praying very hard that her 11 year old son makes it after he was shot in the left cheek. Kyron Green was running an errand for his mom when he became collateral damage in a war between adults. Daniel Ortiz has his story:...

Marsha Belisle - Mother of Shooting Victim
"Kyron usually go and do my runs for me, buy for me, you know. And he went to the store that night to buy some French fries and ketchup, at the same number 1 store that he usually goes to buy."

Reporter
"It should have just been a simple errand at the shop for him to pick up what you needed for your business."

Marsha Belisle
"As usually, that's the case, and I am very - I'm trying to be strong here because I've been crying all the while. But, it's very heartbreaking. I'm so sad. When will this end? When will this end?"

Daniel Ortiz reporting
This mother's outrage is understandable, her innocent 11 year-old son, Kyron Green, is currently clinging to life at the KHMH. That's after he was shot to the face by a stray bullet, fired in a street war between adults, a feud that he has absolutely no connection to.

It happened here at the One Plus One Supermarket on Central American Boulevard at around 7:00 on Friday night. Belisle, who his a food vender, sent him to the shop to get replenish her ingredients. It was right down the street from where her business was set up. She was expected him to be away for only a few minutes, but she became immediately alarmed when she heard the sound of gunshots near the very same shop she sent him to.

Marsha Belisle - Mother of Shooting Victim
"It was like minutes later, I heard several rounds of shots. I froze for a while because I was in my shop, preparing food, and I ran out."

"I saw a colleague of mine, Mr. Reneau, and I said, 'Gills, I am looking for my son. I sent him to this said shop."

"So, he said, 'Marsh, I heard that a child got shot,' and for me to check at Karl Heusner."

"As I came out of the vehicle, and I ran up the stairway, the said young man's brother, who also got shot, said, 'That is the mother of Kyron.' He told me that he brought Kyron here because nobody knew that my son got shot behind the refrigerator."

The cops provided further insight into how the shooting actually played out at the store.

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"Police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where they observed 2 male persons suffering from gunshot injuries. The first 1 was identified as Raymond John Fuller, 21 years-old, of a North Creek Address, and minor, 11 years-old also of that vicinity, both of them suffering from gunshot injuries to the body. What police understand is that both persons were inside of a Supermarket on Central American Boulevard, when a male person entered the supermarket and fired shots at Mr. Fuller's direction, causing the injuries. And also, the minor who was beside the counter received an injury to his body."

Marsha Belisle
"I went to the store, and I viewed the camera, and that was not the case. When my son went there to the shop, the young man who got shot, he was at the front. My son came in because my son knew the guy, and he maybe "punched out" with the him. And then he went on his way to the refrigerator, and he was far away fro him. When the gunman second after my son came in, the gunman fired the shot. The first shot caught my son, and the rest, the other young man received."

The bullet caught Kyron to the left side of the face, and on its exit, it injured a section of his cervical vertebrae. According to his mother, the doctors say that he will most likely be paralysed:

Marsha Belisle
"The bullet entered the left side of his jaw, and the x-ray shows that it went straight pass, and injured his spinal chord, The outer part of the spinal chord, there's a bone they say that it broke."

"Right now, presently, it's not good. They said that - they took him off the induced coma, and they said that they wanted him to respond, but he is not responding to that for them. They're thinking that the effect of the bullet, well that it has damaged his spine. So, he's paralyzed from his neck down. And they're thinking that a blood clot went to the brain, and affected the brain. That's why he's not moving like they want. So, the MRI will determine for sure what is going on."

Police believe at this time that this shooting is a consequence of a previous murder which happened in that same vicinity.

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"We believe that it is an incident that stem up last time when a male person was fatally shot in the North Creek area."

But again, that has nothing to do with Little Kyron. His mom is holding on to hope that he can make make a recovery.

Marsha Belisle
"Kyron is a very loving person. He loves animals. He loves planting. He is very jovial, everybody knows him, from St. Martin's where we use to live. He use to do runs with the guys around - help clean dogs and wash dogs. They would say Kyron what would you want to eat and he would say fry chicken. So they ended up sticking the name on him as "chicken thing." People would called him "chikitin," so thats his nickname around. He is very loving and I miss my son and I want him back."

Police say that Raymond Fuller, the 21 year-old who the shooter was aiming at, is listed in a stable condition at the KHMH. Later on in the news, we'll tell you about the other persons who were either injured or lost their lives to violent crimes this weekend.
