From Standard Bearer To Senate President
posted (May 22, 2019)

And - in the endless game of musical chairs that is politics that Senate seat will now be taken over by you guessed it, Darrell Bradley. That's right, the former Caribbean shores Standard Bearer has been designated new President of the Senate - basically swapping jobs with Lee Mark Chang.

An official release says, "the Government of Belize, at the next sitting of the Senate and through the Leader of Government Business, will propose the election of Mr. Darrell Bradley as the new President of the Senate."

For Bradley, it explains a whole lot. He was basically muscled out of the Caribbean Shores Standard Bearer seat - but - as the Prime Minister described it - he left on a good note.  Here's how the PM put it on Monday:

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow- Prime Minister
"Darrell was very gracious. He said that, indeed he accepted that was the position. We parted, I thought in a way that was extremely civilized and after I heard some hours later, Darrell is going to do this and Darrell is going to do that, he sent me a message - saying that was absolutely not true and repeated his position that, well, we're where we are because of the inactivity in the division."

We can now guess that a part of Bradley going gentle into the long night of political oblivion may have had something to do with the plum and prestigious position offered to him at the head of the Senate - a sweetness to smooth out a political muscle job that could have ended bitterly.

Fittingly, it is a job that should be held by a figure who is not overtly political, and Bradley who has veered from the party line more than once, amply fits that bill.
