Alleged Killer Named Neto Gets Off
posted (May 23, 2019)

22 year-old Ernesto Vasquez, aka “Netoâ€￾, has been acquitted of murder for the 2015 killing of 29 year-old Herbert Bodden.

Bodden, an auto mechanic, was shot and killed in a broad daylight shooting which happened at around 2:15 on February 26th, 2015. Bodden was on Cedar Street, behind Habet and Habet when he was hit by a bullet, which was reportedly intended for another man who was fleeing the area.

When the murder trial against Vasquez began this morning, the main witness testified that before the identification parade was held, police officers showed him a photograph of Vasquez. He also said that the police told him that if he did not give them a statement that Vasquez was the shooter, they would detain him for 48 hours. Based on his testimony, it was ruled that the identification parade was improperly done and therefore, it could not be admitted as evidence. Having no other evidence, Senior Crown Counsel Sheneiza Smith closed the case, and defense attorney Oscar Selgado made a no case submission on Vasquez’s behalf.

The presiding judge, Justice Marilyn Williams, upheld Selgado’s submission, and acquitted Vasquez, setting him free.
