Don’t Buy Contraband Carrots
posted (May 24, 2019)
Contraband carrots are in circulation and the Ministry of Agriculture is urging the public not to buy it.

The Ministry says that no recommendation has been given to anyone to import carrots.

Local farmers started harvesting in December 2018 and they will supply the domestic market until the end of June 2019.

These farmers are from La Gracia, El Progresso and San Antonio in the Cayo District and Roseville in Stann Creek District.

A press release says, quote, "the Ministry encourages consumers to support the purchasing of local products…The only time when the recommendation for importation is given is when there is a deficit in production and the local demand is not met."

Contraband carrots are regularly smuggled in from Mexico at illegal border crossings on the Rio Hondo.
