Land Dispute Leads To Shooting Placencia
posted (May 28, 2019)
And while that dispute led to a killing in Corozal, a Placencia Village man in the Stann Creek District is lucky to be alive after he had a bitter land dispute with an armed and licensed neighbor.

At around 8:30 last night, police found 43 year-old Francis Eiley suffering from a gunshot injury to the leg. He was on the way to the village's polyclinic to get medical help, and when they started to inquiry about how he was shot, he told the cops that his neighbor, Terrence Lopez, shot him in the leg.

Here's the head of National Criminal Investigations Branch, sharing more details about the case:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"Last night, shortly after 8:30 p.m, Placencia police responded to a shooting incident on the main street, where upon arrival, they met Francis Eiley, 43 years-old of a Placencia address, walking towards the Polyclinic, with apparent gunshot injuries. He was assisted by police to the clinic, where attended and observed to have gunshot injuries to his leg. What he reported to the police is that he was at home earlier, when he had a confrontation with a neighbor, one Terrence Lopez, where Lopez advanced toward him and pulled out his licensed 9mm pistol and pointed it toward his head. As a result, a struggle ensued between both parties, which caused the firearm to discharge hitting Eiley. Eiley is at the Southern Regional Hospital, where he is in a stable condition, whilst Lopez is in police custody, and his firearm was retrieved. Also, what we know - or what was told to police - is that this was seemingly over a land issue between the two."

"Sir, do you all expect - we noticed you released the person's name. Do you all expect to charge him criminally for the incident?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, we do, for the injuries caused to Mr. Eiley."

As you heard, the cops say that Lopez is police custody, and they are in the process of bringing criminal charges against him.
