Police say that Carlos Reyes caught his friends off-guard when he jumped into the river and didn't resurface. The police spokesperson told the press today that his friends became worried, and after one of them jumped in behind him, they found his body on the riverbed.

Here's more on that incident:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On Saturday last, sometime around 12:55 p.m., police were called to the reservoir area in the river in Valley of Peace, where they observed the lifeless body of a Hispanic male, later identified as Carlos Reyes, 18 years-old. What we know so far is that Reyes along with 4 other persons were socializing on the riverbank, when suddenly, Reyes got up and jumped headfirst into the river, and after he did not resurface, a couple minutes later, one of his friends jumped [in] where he was observed motionless on the riverbed. His body was retrieved and brought to the shores. Upon arrival, the scene was processed by police before the body was removed and then transported to the Western Regional Hospital morgue, where he was pronounced dead."

"Sir, you said socializing. Did that by any chance involve alcohol as well?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, it did."

Reporter
"Do you all believe that maybe the gentleman was intoxicated, and that's why he jumped?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Well, that could have been, but that will be a procedure that is usually done during the post mortem, where samples are extracted."

A post-mortem will confirm for the authorities if Reyes was intoxicated. The cops currently have no reason suspect foul-play.
