Robbed And Dragged Into Cemetery
posted (May 31, 2019)
A woman had a terrifying encounter near the Lord Ridge cemetery last night.

At around 8:00, 30 year old Rachel Wallace was riding a bicycle on the George Price highway, and as she was passing near to the cemetery, two men dragged her off her bicycle. One of them was armed with a pistol and they dragged her into the cemetery where they robbed her of $600.00, as well as her passport and social security card along with her apartment key.

The men then ran off on foot through the cemetery towards Pitter street.

This is the second robbery near the cemetery in as many days - and we asked the Commissioner what they'll do about it:

"It's the second one there in 24 hours I believe; 2 days in a row there is a robbery there and we know that has been a chronic trouble area. Explain to me what is Eastern Division doing about it."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I have spoken to Mr. Dawson, who is the Commander of Eastern Division, because I have also noticed the trend that we are having an increase in robberies. As a matter of fact, it is not only in Belize City but rather countrywide so I have directed commanders that they need to put measures in place to be able to reduce that amount of robberies that are being committed. I know that measures are being put in place especially in Belize City. I am not going to say what those measures are because I am going to put those persons who want to venture into the act on notice. But we have put measures in place to ensure that we reduce the amount of robberies within not only the Cemetery area, but across Belize City and by extension across the country."

The other robbery near the cemetery happened on Wednesday 29th May. Six men held up a tour operator at gunpoint and robbed him of all his valuables.
