Triple Murder At High School Principal’s Home
posted (June 4, 2019)
Tonight, Belize City is stunned after a well known educator and high school principal along with two male acquaintances were found killed at her home at mile 10 on the Western Highway.

At around 3:00, 44 year old Alarice Andrewin was found slain along with two friends inside her home. The two males have not been identified, but all three had been shot, while Andrewin's vehicle, a 2015 Nissan Rogue, had been stolen.

Today at the scene, the Lead Investigator, Superintendent Hilberto Romero gave the press a briefing:

Supt., Hilberto Romero
"Around 3pm on today's date, police responded to a call at mile 10 on the George Price Highway, it is a residential area, one house is situated in this particular area. Police entered the house where they found the lifeless bodies of 3 persons inside one of the bedrooms of the house."

Reporter
"Do we know the names of the victims?"

Supt., Hilberto Romero
"We have identified one of the victims as Alarice Andrewin, a teacher who has been identified as one of the deceased."

Reporter
"We were told that its 2 males and one female bodies. Do we know the identity of the 2 males?"

Supt., Hilberto Romero
"No, we do not know the identity of the 2 males at this time. We are working on that in trying to establish the identities at this time."

Reporter
"How as police informed that something was happening at this residence?"

Supt., Hilberto Romero
"Police received a phone call from persons who were concerned that they had not seen this teacher come to work today."

Reporter
"Was her vehicle present at her residence when police arrived?"

Supt., Hilberto Romero
"The vehicle was not found at the residence."

Reporter
"Was the vehicle found?"

Supt., Hilberto Romero
"The vehicle has not been found."

Reporter
"Do police suspect or have any idea of what might have happened inside that house?"

Supt., Hilberto Romero
"We have the Scenes of Crime here at the scene processing the scsne. We have gotten some senior investigators who will comprise a team who will investigate these 3 murders."

Reporter
"Can you speculate as to what happened?"

Supt., Hilberto Romero
"I cannot speculate. A thorough investigation will be conducted to determine what happened here, so we can find the perpetrators of this heinous crime."

We note that Andrewin's home was targeted by burglars in early May. Police were returning from a prison run, and sighted the thieves as they were walking out of the house with stolen items. 7 persons, four men and three male minors aged 13, 14, and 15 were apprehended and arrested.

And while that is an important detail - for the students and faculty at Excelsior High where Andrewin was the acting principal - none of it adds up or makes any sense tonight.

They lost a talented and compassionate leader, and a committed, career educator - in an incomprehensible act of violence. PUP City Councillor Javier Castellanos from the school board spoke to the media this evening. He said he was the one who called police when she didn't show up for school today :…

Javier Castellanos, Chairman, Excelsior High School
"When I reached about 1:30 today at school, I was informed that Ms. Andrewin did not report to work. So they were trying to contact her. Also, myself was trying to contact her during the day, so I went to school and asked them if the principal was at school and they said that she was not in. So I decided to take a step since she would have informed me or informed the school of her absence. So I decided to call Hattieville Police Station to see about the situation since on mile 10 George Price Highway."

"There was a robbery before, a burglary about a month ago and that was my concern, you know that maybe something would have happened. So I called the Hattieville Police Station and they decided to come and check and this is the information I got, the same information that you have."

Reporter
"Can you confirm to us if Ms. Andrewin lived here alone or was she here with other persons?"

Javier Castellanos
"She usually comes here, she lives here but sometimes when she has no company she, I mean she usually has company to come up here with her due to the distance and the location where her home is."

Reporter
"It is alleged that she is one of three persons who may have been murdered inside the residence. Would you have any idea as to perhaps who the other two persons would be?"

Javier Castellanos
"She had a friend, I believe she had a friend whom she usually comes with when she does not have no company, but I don't know his name. I know him but I don't know his name."

Reporter
"Can you talk to us about Ms. Andrewin, the person, either in her professional life or as someone you knew personally."

Javier Castellanos
"For the short term that I knew her about six months, she is very active, a young lady that really wanted to work hard to prove herself and also help Excelsior High School to improve and we were on that path there to improve the school situation and the uplifting of the school and she was a very energetic young lady."

Reporter
"You said that there was a robbery about a month back, do you know anything about that what the circumstances were about that?"

Javier Castellanos
"About a month ago she informed us that her house was burglarized and she mentioned that the police was passing by at the same time and they caught the burglars with the TV and other stuff and she decide to press charges, but she was holding reservation on that, because she was scared."

Reported
"She lived here alone, she had family?"

Javier Castellanos
"She lives here alone, yes, but she comes with company most of the times, yes."

It's a developing story this evening, and police are still processing the scene at this time. Reports say all three had been tied up and may have been shot to their heads - this is unconfirmed. But, tonight, we know three are dead and only one positively identified as 44 year old Alarice Andrewin. We'll have much more on this tomorrow.
