Compol Chester Snaps At BNTU
posted (June 5, 2019)

The Belize National Teachers Union also issued a statement, titled: "BNTU Livid over Gruesome murder of its member." End quote.  The statement describes Andrewin as a stalwart member and supporter of BNTU activities.

It then goes unto say, quote, "the BNTU expresses total condemnation of this heinous act but also calls on the authorities at the Ministry Of National Security to ensure that all efforts are made to find those who have robbed us of such a young, vibrant, charismatic and consummate professional," end quote.

The statement got unto say, quote, "As soon as the commissioner of police and other personnel at the Ministry Of National Security boast of a reduction in crime, there is almost an immediate increase.  We recall most recently a young student, Kyron Greenand so many other innocent victims who have fallen prey to the continued lawless behavior.

Jules Vasquez picks up the statement from there as he read it to the Commissioner of police today:..

Jules Vasquez
"'We call on and call out those who have been appointed and placed in positions of authority to ensure that crime is brought to a minimum. DO YOUR JOBS! The Belizean populace is tired of burying our loved ones.' What's your response to this sir?"

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"I would want to tell the teacher's union to do their jobs too; I don't know what they expect the police to do. We don't mind everybody homes, we have been doing a lot and as a member of the media, I'm sure that you would agree with me that you have seen a mark reduction in crime and for people who want to sit and blame the police for every crime that occurred - I say shame on them because we all have a responsibility, including the teacher's union. Teachers spend more time with our children than we spend with them at home, let's be real. I don't want to sound off here but we cannot be pointing fingers in other areas and feel like theirs not being pointed back at us. This must be a collective effort and I have not seen any instance where either myself or anybody have been boasting about crime going down. We don't do that, the minister made mention, yes that the statistic is showing a reduction of so much in murders and that's the reality, you can't cheat the police away from that. I really and truly took offence to people telling the police to do their work because for sure, some of them who want to tell us to do our work wouldn't even want to do our work for a minute. Many of our officers work long tireless hours and we don't get overtime pay but our officers are committed and they are dedicated and they are out there. So when they want to insinuate that we're not working, I have to take as an insult to the hard working men and women or the Belize Police Department."

Both the commissioner and the BNTU offered condolences to the Andrewin family.
