2 weeks ago, the police tested the new anti-gang legislation, when they prosecuted 4 men who pleaded guilty to being members of rival gangs in the Lake Independence area of Belize City. Well, the cops have charged 1 other man, and he too has pleaded guilty.
He's 32 year-old Brian Armstrong, a stevedore of West Canal Street, and he was arraigned today in front of Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford for the offense of being a member of a criminal gang. He pled guilty, and he was sentenced to pay a find $3,500 by November 6, 2019. If he defaults on payment, he will serve 3 years in jail.
Armstrong pleaded guilty to being a member of the Rocky Road Bloods, which is in close proximity to the George Street Gang. Police reported that they arrested and charged Armstrong, after they did several investigations into his gang activity. They gathered evidence against him, which included surveillance of the area, where they spotted him in the company of other suspected gang members. They say that he has pictures up on Facebook displaying gang insignias, and that they conducted an interview with him, in which he admitted to being a gang member.
