Tonight, four alleged gang members are on remand at the Belize Central Prison. They are accused of being a member of a gang.
They are 27-year-old Shane Harris, 27-year-old Henry Cornejo, 24-year-old Jovan Clare, and 23-year-old James Matthew Palacio.
Police allege that Harris and Cornejo are member of the George Street Gang, while it is alleged that Clare and Palacio are members of a cell of the George Street gang cell known as the Afghanistan Click.
They four men all pleaded not guilty to the charge and while they are maintaining a not guilty plea, their attorney, Leeroy Banner submitted that on the surface of the facts in the case, there is no evidence to substantiate the charge. Banner urged the court to withdraw the charge immediately and set the men free. Senior Magistrate, Tricia Pitts Anderson has reserved ruling in the matter for next week Wednesday.
The four were remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until next Wednesday.
So far, 5 men have pleaded guilty to gang membership and have all been fined $3,500 dollars.
