An 18 year old will spend his 19th birthday in jail - after Belmopan police say he pulled off a brazen facebook swindle.

18 year old Sheldon Rodriguez is accused of two counts of "Obtaining property by deception." The first accusation is that Deseree Arzu from Belize City contacted him over Belize Buy and Sell and contracted him to buy an engine and bring it from the US to Belize. She claims she paid him $1,500 dollars and then he disappeared.

In another case, Vivian Scott from San Ignacio said that she sent some money to an account after arranging to buy some electronics from him - also over the Belize Buy and sell platform. The money was paid, but those electronics never appeared.

In court, he pleaded guilty to the first count and was fined $1,500 dollars. He pleaded not guilty on the second count and was remanded to Hattieville Prison until Monday - leaving him to spend his 19th birth which is tomorrow, 8th. June, in prison.

Police say they are seeing an increased incidence of fraudulent transactions through dubious facebook transactions.
