Big Break in Triple Murder Case: Police Charge Two Men
posted (June 10, 2019)
2 men have been charged for the chilling mile 10 triple murder. Those men are 24 year old Mahogany Heights resident Kyle Zetina and 18 year old Sunset Park Community resident Shawn Flores. They were both arraigned this evening on 3 counts of murder. As we have reported, On June 4th, well known acting principal of Excelsior High Alarice Andrewin -, her friend, naturalized Belizean Vidal Antonio Yuman, and his friend from Guatemala, Maria Delfina Juarez were all shot and killed inside Andrewin's home. Their hands were bound with pieces of cloth and a pair of socks in one case, or in another case, bound with duct tape. All three of their feet were tied with a single hundred foot extension chord. Andrewin was shot twice to head and the other two received a single bullet to the head. It's a heinous and calculated act of violence and today at the police press briefing, Commissioner Chester Williams and his team told us more about the progress they have made so far but said that there are still more loose ends in this case.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I a, proud to say that thw work of the investigative team in colloboration with some members of the community have yield great success for us and while we are not going to blow out at this time over what we have achieved, I am proud to say to the nation of Belize that we have arrested and charged two persons in connection with that triple murder at mile ten."

Supt. Hilberto Romero, Acting Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
"These murders were shocking and senseless. We conducted a vigorous investigation which led to the arrest of Kyle Zetina and Shawn Flores who have now been charged for the triple murder. Our investigation revealed that this all commenced as a result of a burglary. They broke into the house with the intention to steal and thereafter something occurred within that house at which point the three occupants of the house were shot to death."

"We still have not recovered the stolen vehicle and again I would like to appeal to the general public for information regarding the stolen vehicle. It has not been recovered. It was last sighted in the Cayo District and thereafter we have not been able to locate the vehicle. We have several other matters we need to follow up on and it is an open investigation and those will be followed up as we go along."

Chester Williams
"Yes we know that we are just at the arresting stage, but moving forward with this investigation I have tasked Mr. Romero and I have also spoken with the D.P.P. and what I want Mr. Romero to do is to work very closely with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions with this matter and the D.P.P. will be guiding us moving forward to ensure that we put together the best possible case to be able to secure a conviction come trial time."

In terms of the court case, Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer didn't take any plea from Zetina and Flores. She remanded them to the Belize Central Prison until July 29th, the next adjourned date of their case. Police say these men are known to them and have been charged for previous theft and burglary offenses. Now in terms of the murder investigation, police say they have recovered the weapon believed to have been used in this crime, as well as the license plates for Andrewin's vehicle, that is still missing and they have also recovered a few items that were stolen from Andrewin's house. As you heard police say, the motive is burglary but the investigation is still ongoing and police will continue to look into several leads and motives - including the issue of misappropriated funds from Excelsior High.
