posted (June 11, 2019)
As we mentioned last night, this year's PSE saw several top performers come from the Cayo district. Three students from St. Andrew's Anglican School placed in the top 10. We caught up with those students and their teacher this morning and spoke to them about their achievements...

Jasmine Espat. 1st, St. Andrew's Anglican
'I was expecting to do good because I work very hard and I put a lot into it, but I didn't expect to do this well. so I was a bit surprised. I was a bot happy and I feel very proud."

"Talk to us about the preparation that your yourself went through and how your teachers here helped you prepare for the PSE."

Jasmine Espat. 1st, St. Andrew's Anglican
"Well I think a lot of people believe that the PSE is only based on standard 6, but I know now that it's not. It from infant 1 all the way to standard 6, so you really have to make sure that you grasp everything and all your teachers count. They all play a part in your results because it's from in fact 1 all the way up."

"As you've said your work paid off, we know that you and I'm sure that all your classmates and all the students who took the PSE - this is what their school life has been leading up to. talk to us about your preparation."

Giovanna Campos. 10th, St. Andrew's Anglican
"I studied a lot. I paid attention in class and I went through a;; my notes several times to get to know it well."

Tomas Serrut, 9th, St. Andrew's Anglican
"When we would receive test i would go over it to see what I got wrong, ask my teacher if there are other ways to do it and then I just make sure that I pay attention in class, I'd read a lot, because I am an avid reader, so I read at home, google things - things like that."

Eduardo Reyes, Std. 6 Teacher, St. Andrew's Anglican
"For the past years we have been performing really well, not just having or placing children in the top 25, but also performing as a class or as a classroom real well. Something that we try to invocate in them is to believe in themselves, putting that first apart from the academics and of course its just preparing them, apart from academically, mentally as well, spiritually. So working hand in hand with other teachers as well talking to them, advising them, trying to calm them down and a lot of stuff that goes into it."

Faith Nazarene School also produced top students. Emeleigh Kib placed 5th, and while she didn't make it into the Top 25, we spoke to Maria Cal about overcoming her struggles as a visually impaired student and being successful in the PSE...

Emeleigh Kib, 5th, Faith Nazarene
"For now I was in the top 25 of the country. I was surprised because I knew I was going to do well on the PSE, but I never expected to have such a high score. Aside from studying at school and working at school I had some help at home from my parents and my sister and I also studied at home."

Lucia Waight, Std. 6, Faith Nazarene School
"It's a long process, consistent work, support, a lot of practice on past exams, word of encouragement as much and I am always a teacher who instil that when you do something you should do it to your best of your ability."

Maria Cal, Faith Nazarene School
"What I did to prepare for PSE was I studied and I had help from my teachers and my parents and that is how I did so well. Some challenges that I faced, although I had pain in my eyes sometimes, I travel with migraine headaches, but I just remembered that no matter how I do, there is a second chance in life and there are opportunities and how I overcame those through music. Whenever I sing, my mind blocks out everything and so that's how I manage to block out everything and keep focus."

All the soon to be graduates advised their underclassmen to relax and continue to study for their exams.
