An Alliance To End Hunger
posted (June 14, 2019)
Yesterday the Belize Parliamentary Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition held a sensitization meeting for key stakeholders. Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber attended the meeting and spoke to the media today about how the alliance plans to make Belizeans healthier, and even told us about his own personal health challenge....

Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
"This is a collaboration of players, but what warm my heart particularly, we were able to bring together parliamentarians from different political footings. We had senators and members of the house of representatives present there and they were very enthusiastic about lending support to ensure that we stamp out hunger and malnutrition in this country. You know that our ministry has been working hard in collaboration with the ministry of agriculture, ministry of human development and the ministry of health on what our children are eating. As I have now taken on as my own personal agenda, if you listen to the remarks that I make in the stepping up ceremonies, the subsidy ceremonies - I'm issuing a challenge to the children of Belize as these school leavers of course, as they leave to take on a challenge for the summer of no sugary drinks for at least one of the months where they drink just water and they cut down on some of the bad foods like the pizza and the fry chicken and the burgers and all that and try to encourage at least some more healthy eating, but this is the goal of the initiative, that we want to ensure that there is healthy practices in our schools and where else can the start be with the parliamentarians of course who make the policy."
