Worries Over Missing Men in San Pedro
posted (June 17, 2019)
Two San Pedro men are missing and their families fear the worst. On Thursday night, 27-year-old Silverio Cal and 26-year-old Melvin Montesino, went to the north of the island on a motorbike and haven't been seen since.

Now, you probably know that Northern Ambergris Caye has been the scene of countless murders and bodies found - and that's why the families are gravely concerned tonight.

Police told us what they know so far:…

ASP Alejandro Cowo- OC CIB
"Aida Montecino, of a San Pedro address, visited the San Pedro Police Station and she reported that she had not seen her son since Wednesday the 13th of June. His name is Melvin Alexander Montecino, 26 years of a Sea Star Street in San Pedro. He is of Hispanic descent, medium built, about 5 feet 8 inches in height. What we understand is that on Thursday at about 9 pm he was at his address along with other friends when he received a call and thereafter departed from that location along with another friend on board of a motorcycle. That was the last time that he was seen in the area of San Pedro. Up to now the family members and police have organized several searches. Information they received was that he went to the north side of San Pedro. So, the family members and police conducted a search within 11 and 14 miles north of San Pedro where, up to now it has provided fruitless. The mother mentioned that the last time she saw him was on Wednesday. The other friends that were along with him at the apartment, as he is the manager of an apartment building, said he left from there on Thursday night along with another male person Silverio Cal, 27 years of that same address. However, no family members of him have made an official report. We were told that the family members are from Punta Gorda and they will be proceeding to San Pedro police to make an official report in regards to his disappearance."

"What was their business on Northern Ambergris Caye sir?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"I cannot tell you what is there business on that side of the island."

As we have reported many times over the years, the northern coast of Ambergris Caye is a hotspot for wet drops by drug cartels - and it has been the scenes of countless shallow graves found for those trying to collect those drugs - which are closely watched by rival drug gangs.

The San Pedro Sun reports that on Friday during a frantic search, Police found a motorcycle helmet and a mirror on the northern beach.

Any person that may have information that could lead to the location of Cal and Montesino can call island police at 206-2022.
