When CTV3 spoke to one of Ek's friends, he said that Ek and his buddies had been hanging out and drinking and then Ek left. He was knocked down about 15 minutes later. His friends rushed to his aid but Ek died shortly after. Here's what a friend said in Spanish:

"We realized what happened and we heard the bang of the accident and we went there and he was all broken up, and we saw him…and we picked him up. The police nor the ambulance came so we took him in the Chairman's pick up and then he died when we were leaving Libertad Village, he grabbed my hand and told me I am going and then he died."
"Well he is a close friend of ours, he is mason's helper, on Thursday we were talking to him, he was drunk, he spoke with us but we never knew of any problems he had with that man (the driver)…I went to see him and he was crying and he said he does not know what happened."
Ek leaves 2 children behind. According to his friends, he was known as one of the best football players in San Narciso.
